Canada Investigation of Salmonella Java Sprout Related Outbreak

Canada Investigation

Note from SproutNet

October 5, 1999

In following up on the possible outbreak in Canada, the alfalfa seed came from a Enid, Oklahoma supplier and is reported to be lot # 1675.  If you have this lot number, call the supplier immediately.  The current problem involves a grower who was implicated in another outbreak in November 1997.  The owner reported that they use hydrogen peroxide as a sterilizing agent.  However, they do not use the Calcium Hypochlorite as recommended in the US by the FDA.
