New Gloucester, ME (SafetyAlerts) – Due to possible Salmonella contamination, Pinetree Garden Seeds is voluntarily recalling its Sprouting Clover Seeds. Sold via mail order to customers in the United States and Canada, the seeds were packaged in a 3 oz. plastic bag which were labeled “SP9, Packed for 1999 Sprouting Clover”.  The seeds were available from the company’s 1999-2000 seed catalog and were also sold as part of the Sprouting for Health Gift Set. The company confirmed today that is was pulling the product from its shelves and notifying customers that the CDC (through the FDA) had implicated the seeds in a salmonella outbreak in Colorado. The company has not received any reports of illness. But it said customers should destroy any seeds purchased as well as any sprouts produced from the seeds.
