Five Steps to Safe Sprout Production

SproutNet

August 26, 2001

The following steps represent the best method I know of for producing safe sprouts.

  1. Buy seed that is properly sampled and tested for pathogens.
  2. When it arrives, inspect the bags, resample the seed, inspect it, grow it, and test it for pathogens (Sample every bag.  Combined samples should at lease 3 kg.).
  3. Sanitize your seed.
  4. Use Good Manufacturing Practices.
  5. Test the runoff water of every crop 48 hours into production.

ISS can help you with any or all of these steps if you need it.  Please don't hesitate to ask!
